Free Hairdressing in Adelaide Updated 30 September 2023
More free hairdressers exist than those listed below. Finding them is the puzzle. They make surprise appearances then disappear. None last very long.
You may worry about catching diseases. Free hairdressers check customers’ hair and scalp, but I’ve never seen anyone rejected. Nor have I heard of anyone who has caught a disease.
This guide is merely a hint that free hairdressers exist. St Bede’s Anglican Church Hall
200 Military Road, Semaphore Trish Davids offers free professional hairdressing once a month on Tuesdays at 9:00am, but this depends on her getting a lift from Murray Bridge. At least you get a nice breakfast if you find her not there. The hairdressing is an extra bonus.
Pilgrim Church Hall
12 Flinders Street, Adelaide. (Entry from back of church) Professional free hairdressers associated with Stefan and the Angels of Adelaide may offer free haircuts at Christmas and Easter in the Pilgrim Church hall from about 4:30 - 6:30pm.
Salvation Army
70 Marion Street, Unley. Ph 8271 2839. The hairdresser went walkabout, but her replacement might reappear. Best to phone them every couple of months.
Homeless Connect Health Day
Whitmore Square. Open air free hairdressing 10:00am to 2:00pm, usually in October. The housing policy analysis group, ShelterSA. organised it previously, but then the government transferred funding to the crooked Service-to-Youth conglomerate (HYPA).
Hutt Street Centre
258 Hutt Street, Adelaide (near South Terrace) ph 8418 2500 Seven or eight T.A.F.E. student hairdressers were wash and cutting hair in front of their van and annex every month or two outside the front of the Mutt Street Centre. Not sure if you have to sign up for the Eternal Shame File or not. Hutt Street Centre does nothing unless they can rake in government funding to support their dozens of shonky social workers.
WestCare (Baptist Care)
Millers Court (off 212 Wright Street), Adelaide. (near Whitmore Square) ph 8118 5200. A free hairdresser has been there on Tuesdays.
Salvation Army (City Salvos)
277 Pirie Street, Adelaide. Ph 08 8223 7776. Free hairdressers come and go at City Salvos. Phone the DUO team at City Salvos to confirm.
Junction Community Centre Corner of May Terrace and Grand Junction Road, Ottoway. Ph (08) 8341 1334 though they usually don’t answer the phone. They did have, and might still have free hairdressing twice a year, but may deny it.
Cutting Edge Tanunda
Roxy and her staff did offer free hairdressing and lunch every six months at Tanunda. A bus picks up clients in Elizabeth. She stopped during the virus pandemic and might recommence.
